The ASMR Memorial Scholarships were established to provide a living memorial for deceased members. They were originally proposed in memory of Kenes Bowling and Earl R. (Russ) Howard Jr. Each of these men, in his own way, was committed to promoting responsible mined land reclamation. Their dedication and support of the Society was important. This memorial recognized deceased ASMR members who shared these beliefs and attributes. The scholarships provide an incentive to follow a professional career that contributes to the continued improvement and knowledgeable application of technology required to reclaim lands disturbed by mineral extraction.
